Skin Care: How Sun and Skin Care Products Measure Up

Despite having the same SPF rating, not all suncare products provide the same protection against ultraviolet radiation (UVR). Similarly, despite making comparable molecular claims, not all anti-aging skin care products produce the same result, and some have little impact on molecular changes associated with skin aging.

With leading research into mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) and a molecular diagnostics platform that quantifies the level of DNA damage caused by UVR, Mitomics has the ability to assess the effectiveness of sun and skin care products, and to enhance the development of a new class of high performing sun and skin care products.

Our proprietary Skin Care technology is an innovative tool that evaluates skin care products through the controlled induction of damage to skin cells treated with various ingredients, compounds or products and assessing the resulting mtDNA damage profiles. The resulting data determine the validity of existing product claims to protect against UV radiation and create the opportunity to improve the product's or compound's ability to suppress DNA damage.

The Skin Care Mitomic Test adds a firm scientific basis to product claims, and can help create better, more effective products for preventing and repairing UVR-induced DNA damage.
