Skin Physical: Evaluating the Risk of Sun-related Damage
At Mitomics, we are committed to developing personalized prevention, treatment and monitoring regimes for ultimate skin health based on an individual's genetic analysis and cellular damage assessment. Our innovative technology, Skin Physical, provides a compelling screening tool for individuals and the medical community.
Skin Physical features two simple tests that help identify individuals with an increased risk of sun-related skin damage:
The Skin DNA Mitomic Test is designed to identify variants - or a spelling change in the four-letter genetic code - in a gene called Melanocortin 1 Receptor Gene (MC1R). MC1R is important in pigmentation, and is a factor in both hair color and skin type. Research has demonstrated that variants in the gene are associated with increased risk for susceptibility to the damaging effects of ultraviolet radiation to the skin.
The Sun Exposure Mitomic Test quantifies the level of DNA damage induced by ultraviolet radiation. This innovative tool measures photo damage by providing the level of a specific mitochondrial deletion, which can indicate cellular changes that are associated with sun damage. The data provided in the analysis indicates the continuum of damage - how rapidly DNA damage accelerates with increasing exposure to sun - and translates that information into a scale of acute or chronic sun damage.
Results from the Skin DNA and Sun Exposure analysis can be delivered as patient-friendly, personalized recommendations to help make informed decisions about sun protection, sun lifestyle habits and treatment.
